Our commitment
PATHWIN builds software for state agencies, families and people with disabilities, so accessibility is part of how we work, not an afterthought. We aim for this website to conform to theWeb Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA and to the Revised Section 508 Standards.
What this site does
- Works with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus indicator and a "Skip to main content" link.
- Uses real headings, landmarks and labels so screen readers can navigate it.
- Meets a 4.5:1 contrast ratio for body text in both the dark and the light theme.
- Offers a Page settings panel (the eye icon in the header) to choose a dark, light or system theme, enlarge text up to 125% and reduce motion. Your choices are remembered on this device.
- Respects your operating system's "reduce motion" setting. Auto-playing content pauses when you hover over it or move keyboard focus into it.
- Keeps touch targets at least 40 by 40 pixels.
- Announces form errors and live results (calculators, simulators) to assistive technology.
How we test
Every change to the site runs automated accessibility scans (axe-core, WCAG 2.0–2.2 A/AA, Section 508 and best practices) on every page in both themes before it can be released. We also test manually with a keyboard and screen readers.
Known limitations
- The AAC talking board demo uses your browser's built-in speech voices. Voice quality and availability depend on your device.
- Illustrative diagrams are described with text alternatives rather than fully navigable structures.
